Yep, that's what cats do. I can't tell you how many telephone wires and speaker wires my cat ate through over the years. He practically ate the answering machine whole - he hated that thing! He tried very hard to gnaw through the vacuum cleaner cord, but it was just too thick, fortuately.
Any kind of wire seems to become a target. I have always been terrified that one of my cats will find a plugged-in cord and take a bite. Molly manipulates us by sitting contemplatively beside a lamp cord, giving it a little lick and then turning to look at us. Truly! She knows it will immediately get our attention. She can be funny in a scarily smart kind of way.
