DH and I are perfectly happy to call the cat "Cat." However, I am taking her to the vet on Friday and really need a real name. Help! Here are some suggestions so far...
DH said call her "Columbus" as she discovered us. I like this line of thinking the best but can't come up with a name.....I don't like Columbus.
Someone, in comment on this blog, suggested "Mooch." Mrs. S. loves this name the best.
Here are her attributes....
Purrs like a motorboat
chews on plastic
likes rubberbands??? HUH? but true EDIT! I DO NOT LET HER HAVE THE RUBBERBANDS.
SHE IS HOWEVER ATTRACTED TO THEM. PLEASE DON'T WORRY. EVEN NOT KNOWING ABOUT CATS, RUBBERBANDS SEEMED RATHER DANGEROUS TO PLAY WITH. SHE ALSO HAS ALREADY STOLEN A PLASTIC FLOWER HEAD PIN OUT OF A PROJECT I WAS WORKING ON, WHILE I WAS WORKING ON IT!!!! I PROMISE, PROMISE TO BE AS VILIGANT AS POSSIBLE. NOT SHOUTING HERE (ALTHOUGH IT KINDA LOOKS THAT WAY,. JUST HIT THE CAPS LOCK AND AM TOO LAZY TO RETYPE)
Prefers a wadded up piece of paper as a toy to a store bought one.
puts head on my pillow with me at night
Is cute as a button
won over Mr. Bluff & Bluster, DH
sits on top of my quilts as I am sewing and won't move. (ties in with walked in our garage and didn't leave)
I have no earthly idea of what name to give her. I'll know it when I hear it so suggest away.. Oh yeah, I need the name by Friday at noon so I don't go to the vet like a nincompoop calling the cat "Cat.
(if you are wondering what pig sty she is sitting in in the picture, it is a cabinet under the computer....it houses an old joy stick, mouse pads (ha, ha), ink cartridges....it is a mess but only has a 12" opening and noone can see inside it....except the Cat

Likes rubber bands? Oh, you scare me to death! Please, please be careful and don't let her have any. They are very dangerous. Cats put stuff in their mouth and swallow it down because they can't spit it out (barbs on their tongue catch thread and such especially). Rubber bands, string, thread and the like can be deadly. I know someone who lost their cat because it ate string, developed an intestinal obstruction and died. Rubber bands are the worst. We run a no-rubber band household. Also no paper clips. We are also vigilant about pins, thread and fabric scraps on the floor and the little plastic collars off milk jugs. You can't be too careful, cats can eat the darndest things.
And, name? The first time I saw her I though of Silver Belle (Belle for short) because of her silvery gray color. And Belle is easy to call - but don't expect her to come when called!
My Molly's mother was named Moochie. Sometimes the name fits.
Oh I'm so glad she's staying. LOL
Maybe .....
Sweetie
Buttons
Misty
Ms. Kitty
Congrats ...
I forgot two
Princess
Queenie
I really like Belle for her too -- it so suits her colouring! But Cuddles also seems a suitable name -- she's clearly super affectionate!
I agree with The Calico Quilter -- get those rubber bands, and thread, and string and paper clips and, for that matter, plastic bags away!! All those things can make for a very sick kitty!!
Whatever you name her, I'm so glad you're keeping her!
When you said 'cute as a button' I immediately thought of the old song 'Buttons and Bows'. You could call her 'Bows' (rhymes with knows). Of course it seems all of my pets have been named with people-type names. I've had Amy, Buddy, Chester, Jackson. But then Silver, Pepper, Salty and Brandy snuck into the mixture and they aren't exactly a people-name. Good luck with the name!
Let's see, the cat found you and now she is a major part of the family and has become the "Duchess" of your home.
PS Keep us up-dated!
best cat name I remember was one my father gave a cat -- "pain" (short for pain in the a##) as it meowed and converted him to a cat person.... :-)
I've had cats all my life, and I've never seen one with a silver coat, which by the way, is stunning. So I thought of Silver or Minkee. This last one reflects her coat AND FABRIC! I also like the first suggestion above ie Silver Bella.
BTW, I posted links to your cat posts on my blog; everyone needs a hearty laugh now and then (wink, wink).
Since you are calling the cat "Cat" anyway, how about what we named our first cat Gato, which is Spanish for cat.
Yes I thought Buttons too...but if you want to be silly the word for cat in French is chat (shaat). She really is very pretty. Maybe Precious.
My DH likes Butterscotch because from across the room she looks like her coloring is similar to butterscotch.
If you like calling her CAT...then make it longer and caller her Catherine :) Then you have an official name for the vet and can still be called CAT at home.
Haw about "Karma"? It was karma that she found you!
I think Rosaline has it! Minkee! How appropriate can you get?
I like Minkee or Catherine, but have to suggest
Gypsy, for her wandering ways.
Angel, for 'entertaining Angels unaware' or
Suki (soo-kee) japanese for 'be fond of, love, prefer, care for'
Forgot one:
Pita , pronounced like the bread, but actually an acronym for Pain In The A__!
